Artists behind the project

Christophe Defaye, 1968

Olivier Defaye, 1973
Christophe Defaye and Olivier Defaye were deeply influenced by abstract art while studying at the Bordeaux School of Architecture, and the Introspection project is an opportunity to pay tribute to the great masters of abstraction.
Another underlying theme of the project is the influence of new technologies on our perceptions, behaviours, social relationships, and relationship with the real world. Digital photography, smartphones, social networks and generative AI sometimes lead us to favour the representation of an experience over the experience itself. The pleasure of a lived moment thus becomes inseparable from the pleasure of representing it and sharing it with others.
Lived spaces also tend to fade away in favour of represented ones: we are no longer quite sure whether the background of a portrait photograph or of a video call is real or virtual. We end up no longer questioning our actual presence in a space, nor even the reality of that space.
The « Introspection » installation therefore questions the influence of new technologies, in particular through the increasingly blurred boundary between real space and represented space.
Project partners
The current partners of the “Introspection” project are AOKIstudio, responsible for audiovisual content creation; Hibino Media Technical, responsible for system architecture and experience engineering; and Disguise, whose xR technology enables real and virtual environments to be seamlessly merged in real time.
We welcome new partners interested in hosting, supporting, or contributing to the “Introspection” installation. Please contact us to discuss the possibilities and terms of a future collaboration.
